In keeping with this week’s theme, I’m trying to stay focused on the concept of being thankful. While exploring the theme, I decided it was a great idea to find a book that helps young people learn how to be thankful, and how to share that gratitude for all the good things surrounding them.
That’s when I came across a book I’ve enjoyed seeing on our shelves time and again. Blessings Every Day is written by Carla Barnhill and attractively illustrated by Elena Kucharik, and is designed for young children, often ages 2-5. Despite this, I have seen it used as a gift for baptisms through First Communion. The simple, daily format provides prayers that are geared to help children understand what it means to give thanks.
I really encourage this little book for kids, simply because of its daily format. Each day is labeled at the top of the page, and the themes are simple enough to be used year after year. I firmly believe that this book is designed well enough to help instill in children the idea of praying each and every day. With the coming gift season, this is one kids might not ask for initially, but will appreciate with time!
